Sheila Pree Bright: Plastic Bodies

EXHIBIT ON VIEW: Saturday, March 23 – Sunday, September 8, 2024

This exhibition features works from Sheila Pree Bright’s portfolio of her thought-provoking 2003 series, Plastic Bodies.

The series challenges society’s narrow definition of beauty and its detrimental effects on self-image. Bright’s groundbreaking collection of photographs showcases the emotions and vulnerability experienced by individuals who feel compelled to conform to society’s unrealistic standards.

Bright began work on Plastic Bodies in 2003, presciently exploring themes that have resurfaced 20 years later with the release of the new film Barbie — though the photographic series and Greta Gerwig’s film are quite different in terms of their approach.
