Richard Allen May III

Originally from Chicago, Richard Allen May III is an educator, artist, writer, and scholar based in Southern California’s Inland Empire. As an entrepreneur, he is the founder of Richard May Art Education Services.

He teaches Writing courses at ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena and Art Writing courses at California State University, San Bernardino and California State University, Fullerton. He also teaches Art History for Bowie State University, an HBCU (historically Black colleges and universities). At Chaffey College, May teaches Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication and Small Group Communication.

May has exhibited his art at the Temecula Valley Museum, Riverside Art Museum, San Bernardino County Museum, UCR ARTS at the California Museum of Photography, Hampton University Museum, Studio B Gallery, The Arts Area, Cecil Fergerson Gallery, Brea Art Gallery, M. Hanks Gallery, The Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art and The Ontario Museum of History and Art.

His exhibition reviews are regularly published in the Los Angeles-based arts magazine, Artillery.

May served as an editor and wrote the foreword to the book, AFRICOBRA: Experimental Art Toward a School of Thought (2020, Duke University Press) authored by founding member Wadsworth A. Jarrell. He presented his research on the AFRICOBRA (African Commune of Bad Relevant Artists) Art Movement at the New Critical Perspectives on African American Art History conference at the David C. Driskell Center, University of Maryland.

Should you need to cancel your registration, a request must be submitted in writing and received one week prior to the start of class. A 15% fee is retained for cancellation by enrollee. No exceptions. *We require a minimum number of students to hold a class. In case of cancellation, parents will be notified through given contact information.
