Katy Betz: Recent Work

August 6 – September 26, 2009

Katy Betz is a classically trained artist, having studied traditional drawing and painting techniques after the great masters, with an emphasis on observation. She received her BFA in Illustration at Laguna College of Art and Design. She is a gallery artist, editorial illustrator, and part-time instructor of traditional illustration at California State University, Fullerton.

Communication is vital to Katy’s work. Her paintings are entertaining and whimsical, yet the characters, environments, and objects usually represent a deeper meaning. She speaks in the visual language of allegory and metaphor to tell stories. Inspired by words and languages, the titles of her artwork are playful and carefully selected to set off the message of each piece.
