Having lived most of a century, and having worked in wood for most of his life, Sam Maloof has compiled a legacy of uniquely distinctive design in wood. As much a sculptor as an artisan, Maloof has helped redefine how America regards its artists and its craftspeople; every object that comes out of his atelier reminds us that to be human is both to find beauty in the world and to add to it. A lifelong resident of the Inland Empire, Maloof also continues to connect his neighbors to the natural splendor of their region, and also to its heritage of handiwork. “Grace and Grain” samples Maloof’s work from the past half-century, bringing together recently fashioned pieces with several notable works from decades past, including a striking ensemble of ecclesiastical structures originally fabricated for a local congregation and never before exhibited.
With the benefit of perfecting his craft for nearly a century, Sam Maloof has created an impressive breath of artwork. As master wood worker, Maloof carefully designs and sculpts each piece of art that is produced in his studio. Through his work, Maloof has been able to translate the breathtaking beauty of nature into classical functional designs. As a lifelong resident of the Inland Empire, Maloof celebrates the natural beauty of this region through his work. Maloof’s sleek and elegant furniture and ornamental designs enhance any space they occupy.
