@ Riverside Art Museum

EXHIBITION ON VIEW: August 31, 2024 – January 12, 2025

Location: Members Gallery (First floor)

This exhibition showcases Anderson-Staley’s diverse artistic output, including her signature tintype portraits, meticulously crafted photographic books, the innovative Baking Pan series, and paper installations constructed from archival materials sourced from the Maine cabin she grew up in. Central to her work is a critical examination of photography’s role in the construction of identity narratives, as well as its function in commemorating personal histories.

Anderson-Staley’s practice is characterized by a sophisticated synthesis of historical photographic techniques, such as tintypes and cyanotypes, family photographs and ephemera. Her work interrogates the complex relationship between portraiture, place, and memory.

The exhibition invites viewers to consider how archives, cultural artifacts, and contemporary art intersect, while exploring concepts of time, memory, and the flexibility of historical accounts.
