Whether it happens in an elementary school on the other side of the country, a high school in Colorado, an army base in Texas, or a college campus in California, we have all been touched by gun violence. Attempts to prevent these horrific acts often call for us to sacrifice our freedoms. We have come to accept increased surveillance of private citizens, security checks, body scans, and the ever-present security guards. Riverside-based artist Gary Rainsbarger posits whether we must choose between surrendering to mass murderers or surrendering our rights through his site-specific atrium installation, Assault on Liberty.
