@ the Riverside Art Museum

May 9 – May 17, 2008

Reception: May 8, 2008, 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

This spring the Art Alliance and AIA (American Institute of Architects) Inland California chapter under the auspices of the Society for Design Administration, in conjunction with the Riverside Art Museum present Canstruction® 2008.

A foundation of the Society for Design Administration (SDA), Canstruction® is a design/build competition currently held in cities throughout North America.  Teams of architects, engineers, and students mentored by these professionals, compete to design and build giant structures made entirely from full cans of food.

This year, the Canstruction® exhibition will be twice the size of last year’s exhibit at RAM, with 11 incredible sculptures that measure up to 8 feet high. This enlargement will increase the number of cans of food donated and double the funds generated for the Riverside Art Museum to support future exhibition and educational programs.

The results are displayed to the public as magnificent sculpture exhibits in each city where a competition is held. Teams that build the sculptures will be judged and various awards will be handed out during the Gala Opening Night on Tuesday, May 8th starting at 5:50pm.  At the end of the exhibition, the sculptures will be dismantled and the food will be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank.
