@ Riverside Art Museum

Exhibition: January 6 – April 6, 2015

The Riverside Art Museum is proud to continue an ongoing series of mini-exhibition features highlighting artist-members who have received awards in previous Members’ Exhibitions. René Glynn was one of three Honorable Mention award winners back in 2013.

René Glynn has spent the past 25 years in the architectural arena. She has designed buildings throughout Southern California and has garnered numerous design awards. Her work has been published in various regional and national publications. As a departure from architecture, she has begun an exploration into printmaking. While some of these works reflect an architectonic quality, others strive to push the possibilities beyond practical limits and focus on the freedom inherent in the abstraction of form. Most of these works employ collagraphs, a technique whereby textured material is glued to the printing surface. The collagraphs here are created by applying recycled cardboard to the printing surface. These collagraphs reflect an interest in a stripped-down, minimalist aesthetic and a play between the line/solid relationship and tonal values versus textured inscription. While the temperamental nature of a wet-print process can yield unexpected and surprising results, it is René’s hope that the subjects presented here, such as the members of The Goon Squad, will in turn bring you an unexpected smile.
