@ Riverside Art Museum

July 22 – August 30, 2008

Reception: July 26, 2008, 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

In the solo exhibition For the Birds, Kristi Lippire has brought together two works that explore audience participation and material proliferation. Both pieces illustrate the artist’s interest in researching materials that provide metaphor or irony to a sculpture.  In Twittering Machine, Lippire making the geese out of the collapsible sides of vegetable steamers for their feather-like shape (metaphor) and in The Entertainer, Big Bird is made out of flocking fabric for the irony.

These two works also reflects the artist interest in addressing and including the public, not only through direct interaction but also with humor, nostalgia and curiosity.  In anticipation for the exhibition the artist purposely put together two pieces that would force a viewers curiosity with sound and movement.  Kristi Lippire has been working on these two pieces for the last year and a half for this exhibition.
