Learn in community as we continue our Son Jarocho workshop series! This Son Jarocho workshop will be guided by Maestro Cesar Castro. In this multi-level workshop, led by Cesar Castro (@jarochelo), attendees will work on both the techniques and basic rhythms for playing son jarocho in the Veracruz jarana to accompany the main melodies in both minor and major modes, with rhythmic bases in 3/4, 6/8, and 4/4. Attendees will also learn about the main dynamics and special characteristics of some sones, such as “descantes”, “obbligatos”, “redobles”, and embellishments.
Son Jarocho is more than music—it’s a living tradition that brings people together through shared rhythm, storytelling, and dance. No experience necessary, bring your curiosity and an open heart! This workshop welcomes everyone interested in connecting with this beautiful cultural expression.
