The Versatility of Pulp is RAM’s 2025 Members Exhibition. Co-curated by Denise Kreamer and Lisa Henry, the exhibition celebrates the vast art community of the inland Empire and how it has grown. The curators were excited to delve into all the wonderful works on paper that were submitted.

Paper is considered one of history’s most important inventions. Human beings have been making paper—and art on paper—for nearly two thousand years. In Western art, works on paper were originally a preliminary step in the planning and preparation of illuminated manuscripts. However, over the intervening millennium, works on paper has developed into a genre worthy of serious consideration and appreciation, and is now a critical category in contemporary art.

The artists featured in this exhibition demonstrate the remarkable versatility and expressive potential of paper as a medium. From photography, to delicate watercolors that capture the subtle play of light, to bold mixed media collages that challenge our perceptions, these works showcase the breadth of technical approaches possible when working with paper. What’s particularly striking is how these artists have embraced both traditional techniques and innovative methods, creating pieces that honor historical practices while pushing boundaries in exciting new directions.

This exhibition is intellectually engaging, visually captivating, and only a sample of the extremely talented artists working in our region.

Co-curated by Denise Kreamer and Lisa Henry.
