2008 Regional Architectural Design Awards Exhibition

The Riverside Art Museum announces the American Institute of Architects /U.S. Green Building Council 2008 Regional Awards Exhibition, a juried exhibition highlighting the best architectural projects in the Inland Empire region.This exhibition reflects an important new programming direction for the Riverside Art Museum with planned for future exhibitions and projects focused on the quality of architecture and sustainable “green” development within the Inland Empire region. “At this critical time in the region’s development, the museum will aggressively address architectural and development issues particularly as they relate to this region,” states Daniel Foster, Executive Director, Riverside Art Museum.
The exhibition will display submission entries for the annual architectural design award program of the AIA consisting of 2-D and 3-D representational images and documentation of each project.
Immediately following this exhibition, the Art Alliance of the Riverside Art Museum will be partnering with the AIA in May and architectural design firms participating in the 2nd Annual CANSTRUCTION. CANSTRUCTION is a visual feast for the eyes! Trademarked by the Society for Design Administration and working in tandem with the AIA, teams design and build unique sculptures consisting of only cans of food (which will ultimately go to feed the hungry via Second Harvest Food Bank).
The jurors for the award ceremony are: Daniel Foster, Executive Director of the Riverside Art Museum; Calvin Abe, President of ah’bé landscape architecture firm; Lauren Bricker, Architecture History Professor at California State University of Pomona; and Michel Franklin Ross, American Institute of Architects fellow.
The AIA in collaboration with the U.S. Green Building Council (I.E. Chapter) and the Green Valley Initiative (GVI) will include a specialized focus in the exhibition and awards program on “green” and sustainable development projects.
The AIA is the voice of the architectural profession and the resource for its members in service to society. Since 1857, the AIA has represented the professional interests of America’s architects. As AIA members, over 80,000 licensed architects, emerging professionals, and allied partners express their commitment to excellence in design and livability in our nation’s buildings and communities. Both the Inland Empire chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and the Green Valley Initiative (GVI) were formed and launched in 2007 and reflect the growing interest in the establishment of healthy, “green”, and sustainable communities in the region.
