In collaboration with A People’s History of the I.E., this panel discussion brings together past exhibiting artists and curators from the Altura Credit Union Community Gallery at The Cheech to reflect on the powerful themes explored in previous exhibitions. Topics included immigration, policing, environmental justice, and other critical issues affecting the BIPOC communities. How do artists and activists use their creative practices on behalf of “the people” especially in this moment of federal attacks on I.E. communities of color? How does past meets present in terms of I.E. histories of violent removals, hyperpolicing, and deportation?
Panelists Duan Kellum, Fidel Chagolla, Michelle Espino, and Denise Silva will share insights into their work, the curatorial process, and the role of community-centered art and organizing in advancing dialogue and social change. Moderated by Carlos Cruz.
Panel Discussion: 1:00PM-2:30PM
