SUMMARY:Downtown's Decline: The Golden Age of Punk Rock + Toy Drive!
DESCRIPTION:Downtown’s Decline: In the shadow of downtown Riverside’s postwar decline\, a raw and powerful punk scene took root. This presentation explores how vacant storefronts\, fading glamour\, and economic stagnation in the mid-20th century created the perfect breeding ground for underground music. Venues like Spanky’s Cafe transformed empty spaces into electric stages\, drawing legendary punk acts and energizing Inland Empire youth. But as the city began its push for redevelopment -culminating in the Mission Inn’s grand reopening in the 1990s- the scene was pushed out\, ending a chaotic and creative golden age. \n\n\n\n\n\nBring a toy valued at $10 or more for Casa Blanca Neighborly Service (Their toy drive is Dec 12th) and you will be entered into a raffle for autographed Voodoo Glow Skulls merch.

SUMMARY:Writing Workshop Through the Observation of a Work of Art with Lucila Tosolino
DESCRIPTION:Visual art and literature are deeply connected\, both seeking to represent reality\, emotions\, and human thoughts. This workshop invites participants to explore how a work of art can inspire the creation of a story. Through detailed observation of visual pieces—whether paintings\, sculptures\, etc.—the stories emerging from the gaze will unfold. \n\n\n\nIn this workshop\, works of art will be presented\, and participants will write stories inspired by what they observe. The emotions\, narratives\, and contexts arising from personal interpretation will be explored. As the workshop progresses\, participants will work on observation techniques\, character and setting creation\, and the use of the senses as drivers of storytelling. At the end\, participants will have a chance to share their stories in a collective reading\, celebrating the intersection between visual art and the written word. \n\n\n\nNote: Bilingual workshop. It will be given in both Spanish and English. All levels welcome. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Lucila Tosolino\n\n\n\nLucila Tosolino is an Argentine writer\, journalist\, researcher\, social communicator\, teacher\, photographer\, music teacher\, and flutist. \n\n\n\nWith over a decade of academic and professional experience\, Tosolino has received numerous national and international awards for her work\, granted by organizations such as the Argentine Journalism Forum (FOPEA)\, the Argentine Journalism Association\, the Latin American Congress of Investigative Journalism (COLPIN)\, the Press and Society Institute (IPYS)\, and Transparency International. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShe is the author of the fiction trilogy: “Behind the Scenes” (2023)\, “Behind the Mask” (2024)\, and “Behind the Screen” (2025)\, which is published in Spanish and English. She is also the co-author of four non-fiction books: “Doble Vida” (2016)\, “El Clan” (2017)\, “Las Cenizas del Narco” (2018)\, and “El Nido” (2019).  \n\n\n\nTosolino has extensive experience facilitating interdisciplinary workshops in creative writing\, education\, art\, journalism\, and photography. Her community work seeks to empower participants through creativity\, storytelling\, and the arts as tools for emotional healing and self-expression. \n\n\n\nLucila Tosolino \n\n\n\nlucilatosolino@gmail.com \n\n\n\n951-368-3206

SUMMARY:Electrolyte Printmaking Workshop Invitational Exhibition Opening
DESCRIPTION:In the summer of 2024\, master printer Bernard Hoyes led a three-day electrolyte etching workshop at the Riverside Art Museum. Six artists from the Inland Empire—Maurice Howard\, Lisa Loudin\, Adeola Davies\, Deborah McDuff\, Kayren Lyle\, and Ellen Finan—were invited to participate in the workshop\, which was funded by a California Creative Corps grant through the Inland Empire Community Foundation. \n\n\n\nUsing RAM’s printing presses\, Hoyes introduced participants to the environmentally conscious technique of electrolyte etching\, which uses saltwater and six volts of electricity (instead of toxic acids) to etch plates. Each of the participating artists curated and produced an edition\, which they then signed and numbered. \n\n\n\nThe final portfolio\, which is displayed here\, showcases each artist’s unique perspective on the themes of environment\, social justice\, and civic engagement. Their works not only reflect vital conversations taking place among contemporary artists in Inland California but also demonstrate how innovative processes can support environmental responsibility in artistic practice. By providing access to its two printing presses for this workshop\, RAM continues its role as a creative laboratory for working artists in the community. \n\n\n\nArtists featured: Maurice Howard\, Lisa Loudin\, Adeola Davies-Aiyeloja\, Deborah McDuff\, Kayren E. Lyle and Ellen Finan.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImage courtesy of Maurice Howard\, Ancestor Freedom\, 2024.
