SUMMARY:Eclipse: What's your Perspective? - Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Anticipating their exhibition Eclipse: What’s Your Perspective? at the Riverside Art Museum\, Malik and Jonathan have much to reflect on. Their love for the city of San Bernardino led them to build a space of necessity\, perseverance\, and not taking no for an answer in the form of a photography studio @eclipsespaces \n\n\n\nJonathan: “We found ourselves in a renaissance of artists and businesses in San Bernardino and the IE in general. And I think that we started this with the intention of it being bigger than us.” – @323.raw \n\n\n\nMalik: “I really look at what this project’s brought out of me\, it’s really\, really essential to even the photographer I’m becoming. And I think I wouldn’t be the photographer I’ve really been chasing the entire time if I didn’t go through this\, because of the sense of Black community\, the sense of business\, and even how I’m navigating that world too.” – @maliklphoto \n\n\n\nSpecial Limited Risograph printed posters from flier artist Gabe Stein @707.creativeLimited Risograph printed posters will be available for free during the Eclipse: What’s Your Perspective? SUMMARY:Hecho en Park Ave - Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of Hecho en Park Ave. \n\n\n\nRiverside’s historic eastside neighborhood houses generations of families who migrated to this region in hopes to establish roots and legacy. As time passes and the surrounding area changes\, the same journey of a combined betterment continues for many folx who move to this eastside barrio. The Eastside Arthouse\, a collective of working artists and muralists\, are one of those stories and in 2021\, were welcomed in by the area’s locals because of the studio’s mission to bring the art of muralismo to community. \n\n\n\nThe Chicanx/a/o people of Riverside have a long history of advocacy and self-reliance as a comunidad. This group of artists reflected on the Chicanx/a/o diaspora\, and found their own lived experiences as Chicanx/as/os\, mirrored within its residents. Hecho En Park Avenue\, manifests itself as a self portrait of both the individuals who created the artwork and la raza who contributed pieces of themselves to la cultura Chicanx/a/o that lives alongside Park Avenue. \n\n\n\nFeatured artists include Juan Navarro\, Roberto Cervantes\, Megan Jones\, Rosy Cortez (painting)\, Bryan Garcia\, Jonathan Godinez\, Stephanie Godoy\, Clarissa Cervantes\, Kirsten Kamstra\, Ricardo Garcia\, Daniel Toledo\, Estrella Martinez\, e. martinez\, Willis the Gorilla\, Briar Rosa\, Perry Picasshoe\, Natali Rosas\, Tine Torres\, Andrea Lopez\, and Michelle Espino. \n\n\n\nCurated by Michelle Espino and Juan Navarro \n\n\n\nThis exhibition funded in part by U.S. Bank. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBryan Garcia\, Detail of Mi Barrio Lindo\, 2025

SUMMARY:Viva Poesia
DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Cheech for an evening of powerful poesía co-hosted with Cultura con Llantas \n\n\n\nChicano art\, music\, and literature played a role in capturing the spirit of an entire community which propelled\, nourished\, and sustained the Chicano Civil Rights Movement. Artists that embraced Chicana/o identities at that time addressed pressing social justice concerns such as educational and economic inequality\, farmworker rights\, and other forms of state violence and oppression in the United States. \n\n\n\nThe oral tradition of spoken word in music or storytelling has been the way that our history and culture has endured and persevered. Poetry is an extension of that oral tradition and is the sister spirit of music. It gives voice to our struggles and allows us to work towards a collective consciousness for our gente as we maintain our cultural identity and fight for political power and place in an ever-changing world. Poets continue to be the voice of our community. \n\n\n\nCo-Hosted By\n\n\n\n\n\nAlma Rosa Azul is a Chicana spoken word poet\, community organizer\, and mother. She is the co-founder of Barrio Fuerza located in Downtown San Bernardino\, host of Barrio Poetry Club Open Mic\, and Facilitator behind Word Blossom writing hour..She considers herself a self taught and community based poet and deeply believes that poetry should belong to the poor\, the everyday person\, and all of humanity. She is Alma Rosa Azul. A name in three parts to braid and then tie at the end with a poem.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFeatured Poets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJag Arreola is a hip-hop artist from Fontana\, California (Unsurrendered Kizh land). He is a survivor of the police retaliation & wrongful incarceration that happened to him and 7 others in San Bernardino County\, dubbed the “Justice 8”. The content in his music highlights a strong commitment to sobriety\, militant decolonization & the push for liberation for all marginalized peoples from a Chicano indigenous perspective. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSammy is a Mexican-American educator\, poet\, spoken word artist\, and zine queen from the San Gabriel Valley. She has reached many new stages with her recent comeback to poetry writing on topics such as feminism\, racism\, working with children\, mental health\, love\, and heartbreak. She’s been eagerly making a name for herself by placing 1st place in both the OC Poetry Slam in October and Pomona Slam in December. Sammy is currently working on her manuscript for her debut poetry collection\, Empty Fields of Sunflowers. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAngela Aguirre is a Chicana writer\, speaker\, and teacher from Pasadena\, California. From her poetry to her podcast\, she uses her unique and powerful voice to speak life into her community. With a degree in Communication Studies and Rhetoric from Cal State LA\, she believes poetry is medicine. For the last ten years\, she has shared that medicine at events around the country and taught writing workshops at universities\, nonprofits\, and detention centers. Angela hopes to inspire people\, particularly young women\, to find their voice and to use it. Recognized for her impactful work\, she has received awards such as Woman of the Year in 2017 and the YWCA Women for Racial Justice Award in 2022. Angela has been featured by LACMA\, TEDx\, The Huffington Post\, and The LA Times to name a few.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nErick Aguinaldo is a spoken word poet\, professor A father\, brother\, fighter\, and lover He was born in LA and raised in the IE. He has some degrees from some fancy universities but has learned the most from his community. From the walls of formal education to the forced segregation of the streets\, he draws strength from the resistant and resilient. For him San Bernardino is home. He embraces the good\, the bad\, and the ugly. He firmly believes true power is in the people. \n\n\n\n\n\nA Cultura Con Llantas Event\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFREE EVENT – Register Here!
