In order to start with Intermediate Painting (w/o Beginning Painting) or Advanced Painting (w/o Beginning & Intermediate Painting), you must email photos of sample artwork done by the student to Art Education Director Caryn Marsella at for approval.

Beginning Painting

This class will start with painting basics. We will go over supplies needed to paint and their use. Learn color theory by mixing colors, design a composition, and learn the basics of watercolor.

January 14–February 11

Intermediate Painting

We will use our acrylic and watercolor techniques learned in Beginning Painting and add new skills, including blending colors and creating value in a painting.

February 18–March 17

Using our skills as building blocks, we will create paintings on canvas with guidance from the art instructor.

Monster Making and Creating Plush Toys Back by popular demand!

Use your imagination and bring your very own make-believe friend to ”life”. We will design, create a pattern, and hand sew our very own plush toys out of felt and accessories.

Explore and get inspired by RAM’s current exhibitions. Students will create architecture drawings based on Henry Jekel’s designs, colorful paintings inspired by Sandra Rowe, and sculptures after seeing Brenna Youngblood’s artwork.

February 19–March 18

NEW! Create a Storybook

Let’s write and illustrate our own book! Students will use five basic elements: character, setting, plot, conflict, and resolution to create their own storybook. Based on their stories, they will create pictures to illustrate their story and design their front cover.

Students will learn about American and Canadian culture and art, and be inspired to create their own masterpieces.

Paper-Mache Food!

Create your own paper-mache artworks! Make giant food by designing, sculpting, using paper mache, and painting. Your artwork will be displayed at Artwalk on February 6, 6 p.m.–9 p.m. with artist Deladeso’s pop-up installation in our Atrium.

This class is for students who know a little Spanish and are interested in picking up some more, as well as some new artistic skills.
