Watercolor Magic

Watercolor painting is considered to be a difficult medium, but once you know the basics, paint and water will become your friends and you will marvel at what you can create. In this course, students will prepare a drawing from an image and proceed to paint it, learning the basics of watercolor painting. Techniques will include the wet-on-wet method, the dry-brush method, mixing washes, and other types of brushstroke work. Come and create a masterpiece!

6-class session: $175 (RAM Individual Members or above $157.50)

Necessary materials:

    • Watercolor Paints:
      • Grumbacher, Cotman or Royal Langnickel
      • Colors: Cadmium red (medium), Cadmium yellow (medium), Ultramarine blue, Paynes grey, Sap green, Purple, Alizarine crimson, Cerulean blue, Cadmium orange, Burnt umber, and Burnt sienna.
    • Supplies:
      • 12”x16” covered Watercolor Palette
      • 2 plastic water cups
      • Gum eraser
      • #2 pencil
      • Watercolor paper (11”x14” 140# cold press­pad or block)
      • Portable drafting board or Masonite board size 18”x20”
      • White paper towels
    • Watercolor Brushes:
      • Natural bristles, short or long handle.
      • #12 Cotman round, 1 ½” flat, 1” flat, ½" angle, #6 or #8 round, #0 or #1 script or liner brush.
